Default tach and spedometer

hey guys, on the 95 dodge i just bought a few weeks ago. (which was pretty much a give away)
the tach and spedometer sometimes doesnt work. sometimes it will.
what should i look at first

Check your ground from battery to body i had a 91 and all of the gauges would flicker and it was because of a week ground.

This probably won't help, but the '94's thru '96's you could check some diagnostic codes without that diagnostic tool box thing. Guess the only one relevant would be code 15, though. You just toggle the key on and off 3 times ending up with it in the on position, all without engaging the starter and then look at the check engine light for the blink codes.

thanks, the spedometer seems to be working now.
but what about the tach?
could it be crank position sender
