Anyone got opinions on Speedaire air compressors by Grainger Auckland Grainger, the Cdn division has a 7.5 hp, 80 gal two stage on for $1995, normally $3700. I believe they are built by Campbell-Hausfeld. Price includes delivery and setup in the garage, wherever I want to place it.

 

We had a Campbell-Hausfeld unit for a while. Beat on the thing for 2 years before it bought the farm. Much smaller unit, only 10 CFM, bought it from a friend. In a shop environment it was not up to the task, but in a home environment would have lasted a lifetime. Not a bad unit at all. We just had to upgrade. Now we are running a Kaeser rotary screw compressor.

I've got a small CH unit now. The speedaires are commercial/industrial/agricultural units built for Grainger to their specs. Everything I've read, including comments on a dozen forums indicates they are well built and dependable. I think I'll gopher it!

I have a speedaire that is probably 30+ years old and still purring like a kitten. What's better is that I can still get a rebuild kit and other parts for it via Graingers at any time.

Mine is a 3 cylinder horizontal model that I procured from one of my customers when I ran a Snap On truck. Traded him a used ratchet wrench for it...

Not the biggest or highest pressure unit out there, but runs quiet -- puka-puka-puka -- doesn't keep the neighbors up when I'm late in the shop. Makes a dependable 125 psi and keeps up with air tools until I go nuts with a big grinder or something.

Well, got it yesterday and fired it up today. You're right, it is some quiet! Beats the hell out of my little 26 gal CH as far as noise goes. Man, that is some deal you got! Mine listed for $3700, and I got it for $1995, and thought mine was a good deal!

 

I'm looking to buy a compressor but have limited space & need it mostly for my 22ton jack & a couple other tools I'll be getting to help with the restoration of my Motorhome.
Quiet, Dependable & biggest bang for the buck is what I'm looking for.
Any suggestions?

 

I would suggest a 25-30 gallon oil lubricated compressor. Dont get one of the oil-free ones as they dont last and are basically throw aways and are LOUD.

That's the one I've had in my garage for the past two years and I use it alot. No problems so far. I've run it more or less continuously for hours on end using the cut-off wheels and grinders. Just make sure to change out the oil after the first few hours of use to get the break-in junk out of it and it will probably last forever.
