Thats sweet! Too bad were not being offered more cars and even small pickups with those small diesel engines. VW has done well in Europe with their diesel cars. Bring em on! I have a little ford ranger we use to pick up and deliver parts that would be great if it had a small diesel in it.

Ford Rangers were available in Diesel for 4 model years in the US. 1983 was a little 59 HP 2.2l Mazda Diesel. In 1986 the Mazda Diesel was replaced with an 86HP 2.3L turbo Mitsubishi Diesel. They stopped building them after 1987. I would love to have one of those 2.3L turbos.

Ya think? could be! Last time i checked - and its been a while back - i went 2500 miles on one tank of diesel fuel (34 gal.) Not bad I'd say for an 8k lb. behemoth! Its all about start ups and shut downs...thats the only time i burn diesel.
What kind of system are you putting on yer Benz? I would like to get the wife one and convert it too.

Well I was looking at going to the Frybrid system. about $1700 For the whole kit and that includes a 20 Gallon tank.

BUT... at our last dyno event I got to talking to the owner of the shop and they have been messing with VO setups and he's got an older TDI Jetta that has about $300 in parts in the whole set up. He wants to do a Mercedes Next and I offered to help. The system he has will generate good heat almost INSTANTLY so it is start up and in about 30 seconds to a minute you have enough heat to switch.

And being that the Benz is averaging 25MPG im mostly city driving right now, I bet I can bet your almost 75MPG pretty easily.

Frybrid is golden, no doubt...but I am curious how you will get heat that fast being that your combustion chamber can't possibly be to full temp that fast.
You could heat the fuel lines with elec. heat that quickely but elec. heat is way ineficient when you have waste heat from the engine you could be using.
just my opinion.
