Okay i went to go out and start my truck this morning to let it warm up before i left for school it started but only ran for about a minute the it shut off...i am pretty sure the fuel line has water that is frozen in it. i have a turbo heater on it right now and i put garbage cans on the side to try to block the heat. then one of my friends told me to check the fuel filter and when i prime it it gets fuel... any suggestions would help thanks

 

try replacing the filter with a new one, and let that heater get under the truck all the way back to the tank. might have gelled up somewhere along the lines.

 

ya it sounds like you have some summer diesel left over in your tank or lines which gelled up on you.

 

well i had the turbo heater on it for about 2 hours. then my buddy came over gave me a jump and it started right up.

 

i would put some power service diesel 911 in it if ure not goin to replace the fuel filter. I recommend you replace the filter though. when they gel it usually messes them up.

 

okay i replaced the filter and put some de-gel and icer in the fuel tank it hasn't had any problems lately the guy i talked to told me to put that in the tank about once a month.

 

i would run a little anti-gel in every tank, it would be cheap insurance

 

I run a little Howe's in the tank with every fill up during the winter

 

I'm in South Fla and mine is doing the same thing. I bleed it, then prime and i'ts fine for a few days. It's my understanding that there is some type of vacuum leak, either from the bleeder screw, WIF ( water in fuel sensor) or the petcock. Mine will run for a few days after priming, and once primed it starts right up. Symptoms were it would start then shut off after a few seconds and require priming. Seemed more prevalent after it was cold out. Thinking it's a small pinhole in the fule filter up top, or the bleeder oring shrinking when its cold causing the vacuum leak.....

It seems that if it were not a fuel issue,priming would not solve the problem as it does now...

 

The fuel filter housings have been known to crack. I think i have a few laying around if you need one.
