yes thats true i had to get one when i installed my radio witch was a kenwood also i ended up paying around 60 bucks for it but all i know is it somwhat meters and transfurs the the voltage for the radio to work properly hope this will help you out

I went with a double din radio to get rid of the "dog ears" on the stock dash. It eliminates the small tray under radio as well. You just have to find a dash trim piece from a truck that has a factory nav package. Junk yards are best.
