I had my seats cleaned last week at the local detail shop. Well one week later they already look dirty and dull again. I am sure it is just me but when I pay someone 60.00 to clean and condition my seats I want them to look good longer than a couple days.

I figure that I am going to try to do them myself but I want to try some good stuff. The product the detail shop used was Maguires (sp). So that is obviously not the product I am looking for.

I have the light Grey leather as does my wife and neither one of us wear long pants. So I am assuming it is just the result of the combination of body oils and dirt off of our shorts. Not to mention I spend at least 20-25 hours a week in my truck.

What products have you used? How long do they keep the seats looking nice.

 

i always use Armour All leather cleaner/conditioner. some people call me crazy when i tell them how i clean my leather (98 Expedition and 94 Caprice Classic) but i've never had a problem. i mix up a solution of purple power and water. dependong on the dirtyness it's either a 1:1 or 4:1 water to purple power. this gets all the dirt and oil off the seats along with any cleaners/conditioners. i use a medium stiffness brush to scrup with. spray it down and scrub and then whipe the cleaning solution off with papertowel or a rag. then whipe down wih water to get any residue off. this will take it down to the leather and it's not going to look shiney any more. i let that dry and then liberally spray the armourall on and let it soak in for a min or so and wipe it off/rub it in. and i do that a couple of times until the seat is back to it's satin finish and is nice and soft and pliable. i was skeptable at first when my oppulstry guy told me about using purple power. he's been doing this for 40+ years so i trust his judgement completely. i have to clean the backseats of the Caprice this week so i'll try to take some before and after pictures to let you see how my solution works.

DISCLAIMER : this is for real nasty seats that even a specified cleaner for leather won't cleanup to satisfactory cleanliness. this maynot be the best solution for you, your vehicle or others. this is just what I do and it works for me. results may vary from person to person, seat to seat, and manufacture to manufacture. please don't hold me liable for any mishaps, discoloration or damage due to my suggestions as they are suggestions at the most and it is up to you to choose the right solution for you. it is always good to test in an inconspicious place first before applying to the whole seat.

 

You have to do it in 2 stages clean then condition sometime I use 1 step stuff for inbetween cleaning. I use 4 Star (bottom of page) cleaner and there conditioner and it puts off a nice leather smell for a week or 2. I heard Woolight works good for cleaning leather too.

 

i use the armor all leather cleaner/conditioner wipes everytime i wash my truck, but every 3 weeks or so ill use the mothers cleaner/conditioner...

 

Once you get the seats clean I use the meguiers leather spray and it keeps the seats nice and shiny and you can slide all the way across the back seat for about a month with people in it everyday
