Might have to make it a CJ rated oil for the newer diesels.

Not just Rotella - virtually all oils have changed their formulation to meet emissions standards for the newer trucks.

FYI, Amsoil still has the good stuff - CI-4 rated.

From what I can find, there's still quite a bit of CI-4 on the shelves but production has stopped and the stores will be supplied with the new CJ-4 as the CI-4 sells out.

I've not seen any CI-4+, except ours, for a couple years. The new stuff is backward compatible so any truck can use it is required for 07 and newer with the emission components in tact. I'm suprised you're actually still seeing the old stuff on the shelf. They will all say approved for CI-4.
The lower zinc in the new formulations has a lot of people concerned but in actually, they are great oils. Shown to have just as good if not better wear protection. Just doing it with other additives besides ZDDP.
I chose to run the old stuff because we have it, but wouldn't have a problem with the new if that's all I had.

I know I have read from some of the cam grinders and valvetrain guys out there that if you are stock then the CJ stuff is fine but when you start adding aftermarket cams and higher seat pressures the CJ oil is not up to snuff and you need the CI like the Amsoil AME or put an additive in with the CJ oils.
