Getrag = good. NV = bad.

Wow, I have always heard that the other way around.

Getrag = bad, but can be ok if you run extra oil. NV = good with exception of 5th gear nut occasionally on early 4500's.

My understanding is that the getrag can have problems with lubrication and weak input shafts. They do not have the 5th gear nut problem. NV4500's have a problem with the 5th gear nut and when you go real big on power, people put in even bigger, fully splined main shafts which takes care of the nut problem.

I think either one is a tough transmission, but the best would be a NV5600 (six speed) which really has no issues.

Oil for an NV4500 costs about $100 per fill.

Ok i had always heard that the nv4500 was the way to go to. So you say that all the getrag needs is about an extra quart of oil? How much power can one take without changing the shafts?
