Toyo or Nitto
Have a 2008 Dodge (see sig) with 3.73 gearing. I have about 30kmiles and will be needing new tires soon. I do most of my driving on the road pulling a 10000lb toy trailer. I'd like to go to a little bigger tire for the looks but stay with the stock rims (17x8 aluminum). I'm considering either the Toyo Open Country AT or Nitto Dura Grappler. The sizes i'm looking at are either 285/70R-17 (1" taller than stock) or 285/75R-17 (2" taller than stock). I'd like to know thoughts on Toyo vs. Nitto and what people think about the size. The truck tows ok with stock tires but I'm a little worried that the larger tire would lower the RPM below 1500 at 60mph. I guess to keep the RPMs up on the road when towing I could lock out 6th gear (6th OD is 0.63, 5th OD is 0.81, 4th is 1.00). Anybody have any thoughts.
I've ran both on my Duramax and the Toyo's seem to do better in wet conditions, but they last exactly the same mileage on my trucks, 45K. The Toyo's were quieter than the Nitto's after some mileage was put on them. Another one for Toyo.
They are sister companies so they are probably real similar.
My vote is Toyo though, I've spent a lot of money in the last six years with them and I'm very happy. Not sure that I would change to another tire.

Yes, they are sister companies but the Toyo's seem to cost more. My guess is the Toyo brand is like Lexus is to Toyota.
/ it depends on what ur gonna do with it, strcictly highway mostly, the dura grapplers will out last because they are a high way tread instead of an allterrean
I can't justify spending more for the same rubber, being as they are basically from the same company it's quite likely they share the same raw materials, including the rubber compounds. The two companies can have more/different tread patterns to appeal to a wider audience. Nitto has some more specialized designs, and I believe that is the whole idea where they (Nitto) came from in the 1st place.
Nitto's for me. Got them on both my trucks - Duras and Terras. Great tires.
