At A Cross Roads
So at 426hp I broke the input shaft in the 727 Tranny in my 89... I have two options...
I've always been in the school of, Its a 1st gen, keep it all 1st gen parts and dont cheat! but at teh same time I can get more power down with the 47re, but it will be ALOT more money.... Like ALOT ALOT more...
What say ye?
- Buy A 47re, billet shaft, performance rebuild, 3 disc, new drive shafts, manual VB... so alot of $$$
- Put billet shafts in the 727, freshen it up, put all that $$$ fro the 47re into more tuning and be the 1st person to hit 500hp in a 1st gen with a 727 and

what about running a monster cooler on that 727; like do away with the side tank, and the tank in the radiator. at a point it'll keep the fluid hotter than it would cool. then fill it with with some ATF i think is called "trick shift" or a comparable synthetic ATF (amsoil or royal purple) may help ya get a little more to the ground... that non-lock up TC is goin to rob alot... i think you should stick with the 727; bein the first documented at 500 with a 727 is an awesome goal
I voted to keep it a 1st gen but I really like the NV4500 in my 93...
A lockup converter is a pretty big advantage, though, even with a good low stall converter you're still going to lose more through that than a lockup. Like 'Tower' discussed, especially if you stick with the 727, a serious upgrade in the trans cooling is crucial.
