How can I tell if my programer is working proper
Newbie
Bought 2004.5 Cummins 2500 4x4 few weeks back when I was first test drove It noticed alot of black smoke wich I thought was cool... Truck runs fine almost 20mpg in town driving
It has a E-Z programmer that has a 3 stage toggel switch.. on either setting I do not get the roolin black smoke that I would prefer to crop dust the imports & illegal immigrants standing on the street corners...
the power seems to be the same (not towing) I will be towing a 30 foot camper trailer next week up mountains

We see this from time to time. There's plenty of theorys on it. But the reality is it shouldnt smoke much at all with the EZ. It does increase rail pressure so you may have moved some debri through or burnt off carbon deposits. Your complaint is much more common with the New common rail injection systems!
