I'm going to start changing my own oil, Because I don't want to go to a dealer & get my ECM flashed. And I don't trust most of the quick lube places in my area. I'm looking at using Delo oil & a Feetguard filter. Are these Good choices? What is the safe amount of miles I can go between oil changes?

 

i run rotella in my 6.7..been thinkin bout swappin to amsoil..used to run it in my ol 5.9 and would change it ever 25k-30k, with regular filter changes..and fleetguards a damn good filter..i usually change mine ever 12k with rotella...i do alot of towing with mine, usually newhere from 15k+....never had ne probs.

 

I run Amsoil 15-40 HD Diesel in mine and Amsoil filters

 

I was really looking at going with Rotella, But I live in a very small, middle of nowhere town,and our local auto parts store sells Delo. Other than the $5.00 diffrence in price, what is different on a regular fleetgard filter and the fleetgard stratapore filter?

 

i use rotella.and change it every 4k

 

i use delo and found that it makes my diesel run better and the oil stays cleaner

 

I've been running rotella 15w40 since I changed the oil the first time, and no problems. Been using a napa gold filter too... been using those in my race car for years with good luck so I figured it would be safe for the truck.

I've been changing my oil every 5000 miles... not sure if that's often, or too often. I know one thing, it's black as coal when it comes out :P

 

2 miles on new oil in a diesel and it will be black as coal it's just how they work

As long as the DELO 400 LE meets your specification of the 6.7 - which I'm sure it does, but since I don't have a 6.7L I've looked into it. The DELO product is a superior grade HD, high mileage diesel oil. The grades they use work great in all weather from 15W40 to 0W40. I've used them all in my 5.9 with no issues.

FG filters are really the only filters to ever use on a cummins since they are made by cummins (cummins filtration). If you can get this stuff locally and it is at a good price don't deviate and stay this course, you'll be ok.

2 miles! If I drain mine, fill it back up and crank it over and then drain it again it would be black... Nothing wrong with that. When you drain just make sure you don't have milky suspensions in that because this is a problem.
