i have a 99 350 7.3 that i cant get started....i had installed a new fuel pump eirlier that day because of some small problems i assumed could be a result of this..however 25 miles down the road the truck acts as if it is shutting off then when i step on the throttle it belts out a little smoke then runs....5 miles down the road it abrutly shuts off...my ses light had been on for the entire day...however was runni ng fine. it will not start...i changed the cps i get movement on the tach...i carry a odbII tester but i get no codes...wow got me stumped....i have a small oil leak...is their a sensor that shuts the engine off upon low oil?

 

Have you tried the cam position sensor? I'm sure it would throw a code though..... Good luck

 

There was a good reason the CEL light was on. Check it out for codes.

 

big problems solved...couldnt take not having my truck...i took it to dealer and they foud the IDM bad. wow 978.00 for the part....they say when you crank the engine and you get some reading on the tach. your cps is good....i couldnt get any codes thrown though...i hear alot of other people with similar problem wont start or will start and shuts off...they should check this....thanks yall
