QUESTION ON BLACK SMOKE

I saw pics on the sledge pulls Awsome
My question is does'nt black smoke = less power and cause piston wash and other problems.
Thats what I've been taught but now I see black smoke = more power ?
Some one please explain.

to a point your right, if you dump to much fuel then yes you will wash it out, but its all about finding that point...most of the big guys at the pulls are pushing so much fuel they couldnt clean it up if they wanted to...that being said they are also running up and over 150 PSI and still get black smoke...there are guys that run there 12v on the street that tune it so it dumps so much fuel that it will kinda snuff out the fire so to say...
black smoke is unburnt fuel.. first off, its not really smoke.. its ash... secondly, its not neccesariyla loss of power... the engine dumps more fuel into the engine under load... the turbo needs time to spool up, therefore not producing enough air to even out the mix... argo, turbo lag....
if it cleans up completely once your turbos light, then actually your truck is tuned right, in fact you could add a little more fuel
...when you cant get the smoke to clear up that is when you know your past your correct air/fuel ratio
