What are you looking to improve?
Fuel mileage? mabye a little.
Cooler running..probably some
longer drain intervals...most definitely

Syns can offer some advantages. Depends on what you are looking to gain. If your'e one to change oil every 3-5k no matter what oil, then the gain is minimal, but possible.

-Less Engine wear than mineral oil
-Thermical heat stability, if you are hard on your engine
-engine is much cleaner inside, no residues or contaminants inside the engine. Usually if you wipe off the oil, the metal is clean.
-Look at the Synthetic Oils like an insurance without the hassle of an agent.
-Maybe you will gain a 2% up to 3% mileage improvement

In my opinion reasons enough to go with Synthetics, if you don't mind the extra costs.

The best for what it certainly isn't the best oil across the broad? Amsoil is a good oil but some of you need to step way from the koolaid.

I'm a Mobil 1 fan as far as synthetics go. I got better protection from the Mobil then Amsoil.
Now after running synthetic oil vs dino, the things I noticed was longer oil change intervals and about a $15.00 savings on oil changes.
-3 gallons of synthetic, $100.00 = 15k oil change intervals, oil filter $6.00
-3 gallons of Delo 400, $36.00 = 5k oil change intervals, oil filter $6.00x3 = $18.00
And then there's your time of doing the oil change.

Ran Ams in my '92 IDI and my '93 Cummins, seemed to start better in the winter, and was a touch quieter. Not to mention the extended drain intervals, and the savings doing so.
