Default Inline 6

Nothing against any other brand of diesel or gas engine but why don't some of these other manufacturers come up with more inline or straight 6's. Hard to deny that the cummins 5.9 doesn't have a pretty strong track record. And I remember my dad having a straight 6 gasser as a kid and that thing ran forever. He had to get rid of it because the body was falling off the frame They all seem to do quite well on fuel also, compared to the v's What's everyone else's opinion.

Too long and too lumpy a torque curve.

Straight engine is the way to go for any kind, gas or diesel. Just look at the Supra Turbo's engine and the last generation Skyline engine. HKS had a turbo kit a few years ago for the last generation Supra engine that gave 988hp and 911ft-lbs at the rear wheels... I have yet to see any sub 4L V6 do that. Inline engines are also a lot easier to work on...Who knows why V's took over. More cylinders in less space I guess.

The general American public likes the V8. While the inline design is tried and true, it is also old, older then the V design anyway, and the typical consumer looks at old as being less then new. People don't want to buy old technology, they want the new stuff and auto manufacturers have a difficult time selling new cars wrapped around what people view as old tech.

Long live the inline!
