Default what do you think about this.....

2007.5 CTD mega cab 6 speed 4x4

My buddy bought this truck in 2008 new off the lot...
just recently the oil change light comes on so he takes it in and they do the oil change but dont reset the light 4 days ago he calls me and says the truck has no power and wont go over 20 mph we take it in they have it for a day and say its fine.
one mechanic takes it for a test drive and leaves him stranded 2 miles from the shop
(dumb *** didn't take a cell so he walked back) they come to find that the air filter is plugged and the turbo was seized do to carbon build up and particulate filter also needed to be replaced and all this in only 36,768 miles? they couldn't tell me why this was? they fixed it all and updated the ECM (that cost him 100.00)(i dont know why) now it smokes and has more power than the day he bought it what was wrong and what did they do?

Thanks

Sounds like the dealer screwed up! Probably a new diesel mechanic.. They are fixing it for him, right?

owner / dealer neglect for not checking the air filter. The turbo itself probably wasn't seized, the VGT nozzle was and if that was the case it would throw a P2262 code. the rest is pretty much normal ops for a grocery getter/around town operation. the filter could have played a role in it too but not very likely. the truck is just out of the 3/36 warrantee so there is a $100 deducible. and the latest flash will help prevent the above(except the airfilter) from happening again. the EGR and DPF cause a lot of Soot build up in the engine because EGR takes dirty(soot filled) exhaust air and sends it back to the intake where it gets dirtier yet. my truck went 28K mi with the egr plugged in and I am not @ 32K mi. now. I just pulled my intake horn and there is a lot of soot buildup!

The nozzle is in the exhaust turbine housing, and is not serviceable by itself. to fix it you replace THE WHOLE TURBO.
What is his idle time?
he still pays a deductible!
like I said before the flash is supposed to help stop the nozzle sticking and DPF plugging. also the latest revision turbo has a more robust VGT actuator to help prevent the 2262 codes.

he had to pay due to being over 36k miles and now it is under the 100k mile engine warranty which consists of a $100 deductible.
