so I got an appointment to take the 6.4 into the shop monday bout a month ago I was heading up a grade and heard a pretty loud noise coming from the engine but it went away but I have noticed a slight knock in the bottom end lately. That and the coating on the intercooler is peeling off in huge chunks so hopefully they get it all figured out considering its only got 8100 miles on it.

 

I hope it's nothing serious

 

so got a call from the stealership this afternoon they said they hope to have it figured out by next week what ever that means.

 

Coating is paint, there is now a procedure for painting them, but there is an updated 6k776 cooler assembly.

Tapping noise is a common issue, there's a TSB for it, and it's in another thread on here.

 

yea it wouldnt bother me if it was a quite tappin noise this sounds like bearing though and they had told me about the paint on the intercooler just bugs me cuz yea I spent alot of money for a nice truck I hope it isnt anything big ya know I just want my truck back its been in the shop for a week now and hasnt been touched yet.

sorry if that came off as me soundin like a jerk its just been a crazy week and I am payin outa pocket for a rental cuz they wont give me one until they can diagnose a problem yet they havent even touched it yet. stupid 6.0's are clogging up the shop

 

I would be mad too, If they had my truck for a/week & not even touch it !!! & having to pay for a rental I would've S N A P !!!!!

 

so I got the truck back today its not a clean and clear healthy state but its good enough they told me that so far they cant find enough info to warrant tearing it down or replacing it but if it continues to get louder and starts to act up more that I need to bring it back and they will replace the motor. I am just happy to be outa little cars and back in my land yacht

Yea mine is making a knocking noise and sounds like from bottom end but not sure. Ford told me oil cooler was bad and wanted 3k to fix and dealer said that they couldn't find anything wrong and they just put a SCT tuner on it and said that it was good and now with this knock idk what to think. Scared to take it anywhere else. Does anyone live near newport news va

 

connecting rod/wrist pin 6.4s don't use any bronze bushing for the wrist pin so it just rides metal to metal in connecting rod common problem got a feeling this is your cause thank Navistar for cheaping out on tht one ask ford if they can give you some of their money they got from when they sued navistarr.....yea right.
