I take it this is the crash that all the hubbub was about
yeah that was it, raised alot of questions about if the saftey rules set by the NHRA, which are set by times for when you need certian things like roll cages, harnesses, ect. are good enough for trucks. A 8000lb truck running 11's has a whole lot more energy then a 5.0 mustang running the same times. That and teh 4wd's are alot more top heavy.
scary every time I see it!
any truck pushing that speed should have a cage in it.... like bobby said that is a lot of mass going at a high rate of speed. Which reminds me I need to get mine in for a cage

well being involved in an accident not at high speeds like drag racing and still recovering from the injuries, I would say they all need roll cages when going down the track.
sorry but crap happens parts break and roll overs occur
which would you rather have more safety equipment that might cost ya a few more bucks then ya want to spend or live with an injury for the rest of your life that may have been avoided with more safety equipment then you wanted to have

If someone is dumb enough to build a vehicle for motorsports competition to the bare minimum safety standards--which if people would read rule books that's what the requirements are, bare minimum acceptable standards--then wreck it and complain they weren't protected..well, that just sucks.
I just hate watching people crash, then they themselves or others screaming that the sanctioning body--NHRA/IHRA/AMA/NASCAR/IMCA/UMP/WoO/FIA/SCCA/DHRA/NHRDA/Wissota/USMTS/NPP/CASCAR/INEX/ARCA/ASA or whoever the hell --"needs better safety standards."
No, we don't need better safety standards....we need racers to get a clue and protect themselves.
HANS devices have been around for decades....hardly anybody knew about them until Earnhardt croaked from a broken neck--which mind you probably would not have occurred had 1) he had his belts tight, or 2) actually wore a proper helmet/neck brace/restraint system--and all of a sudden they're mandatory, so then people wear them...ridiculous.
Saving a few pounds of weight for the sake of your life just to get a couple tenths or a few extra feet is just stupid, plain and simple. Likewise, thinking track promoters have our best interests at heart when they design a facility is flawed logic. They don't. Never have...never will...
Sorry the dude wrecked, that sucks.....sorry if he got hurt at all...that sucks. The truck did a number on the track, but we're talking some heavy duty weight flying down there.....
**Case in point***
watch this crash--this is one of my best friends from 2 weeks ago...
What that video doesn't show is the final impact with the ground laid all 2300 pounds of car and driver straight down onto Josh's head.
The $800 Bell helmet that bounced off the halo multiple times, and cracked with the final impact with the ground, did its job. That helmet allowed my friend to go home to his wife and 3 children with nothing more than a black eye, sore shoulder, and a rather shitty 36th birthday memory.
You know how many guys @ our track laughed when they found out he paid that much for that helmet last year? Just about everyone...think they're laughing now?
Quality built chassis, quality safety gear...it can't guarantee your life, but it can make your odds a little better....
