tractor hard to start
ive got an old long 460 or 510 not sure which. it runs good but to get it to start every time you have to use starting fluid. somebody told me that the timing was prolly off. what do yall think?
Does it smoke white once it is running? Could be that it is old/tired, injectors could need new tips, low compression ( starting fluid can break rings/ring lands) Some old tractors were just hard to start because of a crappy design. we used to have an allis chalmers 190, anything less than 10 above freezing , and it was HARD to start, but there was nothing wrong with it , that's just the way it was.
A compression test would be a good start IMO.

dang i hate sharin a computer......but it dont have any white smoke and it ran great till we took it to a guy to work on. im startin to think the idiot screwed up the timin. it seems like it dont have quite as much power now. i guess ill try the timin first. i need to get this thing fixed as soon as i can. im just hopein it will run the hay mower and roller this weekend.
Does this particular tractor have a lift pump?If so try that it was what was wrong with our tractor and it perked it right up.Otherwise injectors or the fuel pump itself might be off timed.Check the lines and the fuel filters as well and use grease on the seals it seals them up better.
well it ran like new for a little bit then a valve in the hydraulics messed up
and we got that fixed now the starter is messed up
and gettin rebuilt so maby it will run right after this
