Default Tip to help keep fuel clean

Just saw a video today (sorry, not on internet to post) that showed the fuel filter in the pump hose at a typical station.
How many of you top off once the pump shuts off? The amount of pressure exerted each time you squeeze that handle to top of grossly stirs up the content in the filter and shoots them down the hose and into your tank. (It was a big fog in the filter)
Best thing to do when you stick the nozzle in is slowly squeeze and lock. When it shuts off on its own, do not add more.
This will extend the life of your fuel filter.

Hmmm... That's odd...

I stay in good contact with my local Chevron Station I know when they change there pump filters. (On a regular basis). As for my fuel filters I'm pulling 20K to 30K on my AD 150 (2 Micron filter). No problems here.

Been topping off for years...

I thought thats what a filter is for to FILTER (hold or capture) the debris at the pump and in the vehicle. So if toping off is bad and debris is getting though (station filter) there is something seriously wrong with the filter. (Shrug Smiley)

In an ideal world I'm sure that everything would go as planned but this is the world we live in. Wonder what Micron size the stations are required to run on the pumps.

It's not that you can't top off your tank, he's saying that the sudden jolt that is evident when the pump snaps off breaks particles lose and sends them through so to let the pump handle out on your own instead of using the automatic shut off.

I don't trust any fuel stations filters.(If they even have one!)I put the fuel in my slip tank, where it gets double filtered before going in the tank.Slip tank filters are so much easier and cheaper to change!I run a Donaldson W/F separator with a see thru Golden Rod particle filter.Makes mixin up additives easy, and nothing but pure diesel ever comes outta the filter drain on the truck.
