Default To get a newer truck? Or keep what I got?

Hey guys, new to this site but an active member over on Dodgetalk. Now heres the dilema..

My father has a 2001 Superduty CC 2WD SRW. Now the engine is doing perfect for pulling but we need a 4WD and a dually. The truck is used solely for pulling our 5th wheel horse trailer. He wants a new one but ppl tell him to stay with the 7.3. Now I love the Cummins but dont know much about the newer ones as I have a '99 Ram.

Im hoping for everyones personal experience with either an '07-up Cummins, Duramax and/or Powerstroke. What should he get? Should he just stay with what he has?

If he gets a newer tuck, its goin to have low miles, 4 door (or megacab), 4WD and a dually. So convinve him on what to get!

Thanks so much for any input!
Ethan

get an early 07 Cummins, it will have the 5.9 in it and should be trouble free other than the normal stuff...it will haul great and there is a huge aftermarket for them...

the '07 cummins if you get earily one or an '06 is the newest truck he can get with a 5.9L Cummins. If he wants to stay away from the emissions stuff for now thats the way to go. If he wants a newer one then that I say keep what ya got for now and give the engine builders/ after market a little more time to figure out how to fix the MPG the new diesels are getting without just removing the new emissions equipment and voiding the warrenty on a new 40K truck

You can't really go wrong with any of them.

The few ones I would avoid; 03 or early build 04 6.0 Ford, LB7 (01-04) Duramax

I would probably still buy one of those if the price was right.

I would not be afraid to by a new one they have the bugs worked out of the 6.7. The new 6.7 has more power. You can get very good buys on new ones .

I don't care who makes the truck as long as it does what you want it to do. Sound like to me that the old ford is doing what you want it to. newer is not always better. The 7.3 is a strong puller and will last a long time if taken care of. keep your eyes open and you might find what you want with out spending a ton of money.
