Default EGR unplug

When I read "unplug the EGR", are we talking about unplugging the wire connector only, or do you have to do a full delete. I am going to need my full emissions equipment for infrequent scheduled inspections. Also I read that disconnecting the wire throws the computer off and it runs a second program which may be damaging in the long run. What about unplugging and terminating a resistor which shows 0% valve position. If this doesn't fail the logic it could keep the computer on program A and allow for the proper fuel / air mix. Any thoughts?

I am wondering about the long term effects also. The MPG gain is AWESOME!! Will this cause any damages?

gut the DPF, get the DPF electronics (now code free ) and install plates between the EGR valve and your intake horn. still pass inspections and not have to worry bout the garbage that is hindering power and mileage

I killed my egr a few weeks ago and installed the plates. I wasn't quite sure about the butterfly valve...leave open or closed. I pulled it out altogether so it's wide open. Is this correct?

^^^^^^^ Yes. even just removing the EGR valve, the butterfly stays open. It only closes during regen to help create heat by allowing more EGR gasses to go into the intake.

My EGR has been unplugged for more than 20,000 kms. Because of the open circuit, the engine light is on and the dinger goes off at start up. I don't even notice it now. I saw a 1 to 2 MPG increase and an increase in throttle response. You can plug it in at any time and after 4 start cycles the engine light will go out.

It is in the elbow going into the motor, it closes and then exhaust gas comes from the exhaust manifold through a tube on the front of the motor and goes into the top of the intake elbow. You are reburning the dirty exhaust so it takes the place of clean air.

but if you unplug the egr without deleting the gutting the dpf wont it make the dpf clog up more often.
