You can unplug it. It will through an SES light but if you don't mind that, it works.
Also an SCT tuner can be custom tunned to disable the EGR. I personally know of a man who is custom tuning these bad boys and he always includes the EGR disable in any tune. I don't have one yet but I will someday soon...

Yeah you can cap it off but from what I have seen it is a pain.

yea you pull the up pipe and weld a plate over it. Can't remember what else it takes.

Yes you can. Remove the up-pipe from the exhaust manifold to the turbo, on the passenger side. Disconnect the pipe from the egr cooler, cut-off the pipe that leads to the egr cooler from the up-pipe and weld it shut. Install the pipe again.

If you don't have a tuner, you might get a check engine light, because while the truck is shut-off you need to disconnect the egr plug from the valve so the egr won't open and will stay closed. If you have an SCT, ask your tuner to turn off your egr and you won't get the light.

This should give ya some good info

EGR Block-Off Kit - Off Road Trucks - Diesel Power Magazine

also, just search on google or yahoo for EGR Delete kits... you will see all sorts of different varieties, but basically all accomplish the same thing.

You also need to block off the EGR cooler and re-route the flow. Simply blocking the EGR valve isn't enough because the heat can still get into the EGR cooler and still heat the coolant.
