what are their grounds on giving you a ticket?
technically the black stuff out the tail pipe isn't
smoke
it is particulate matter. and how are then going to determine if you have stock or not stock parts in the motor. unless the cop has a dash cam videoing you emitting soot then it is his word against yours.... if you soot whenever a cop is around then you deserve to get a ticket..... JMHO.....
but how do they justify excessive amounts of soot?
is it the clarity of the smoke?
is it how long the soot stays in the air?
or is it the ammount of time that the soot is emitted from the truck?

This is just like the exhaust noise laws. They get to judge what "too loud" is without ever defining a decibel level or using a decibel meter.
How these gray area laws get passed is beyond me.
