a buddy has a first gen cummins and he removed the afc diaphragm and the fueling pin to attempt to make the truck more responsive to the throttle, when he reinstalled the fueling pin, the truck would not start, and had lost its prime. I tried to figure out what had happened and removed the afc cover but not the fueling pin and the truck lost its prime again. After the first incident the truck ran worse and would not tach out at all, and was extremely sluggish. Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated since this truck is due to make a beach trip next summer!

did you screw the banjo bolt in enough.

 

I did find that problem the boost reference line was not connected at the bolt, but the bolt was sealed to the housing, i told him to fix that first and see what that did for it, but why would that make it lose its prime by removing the afc cover?

no not yet, but havent gotten much help, i will try on firstgen.org, maybe there are someone more specialized with them on there. thanks though

hhhmmmm.... Sounds like a coincidence. The AFC cover and fuel pin shoul not have anything to do with losing prime. There is not even any fuel in there. Did he hit something on the side of the pump while working on it? Best thing to do is to clean it all REAL good and see were the leak is coming from.

fixed it, it was the lift pump allowing the fuel to drain back to the tank, the afc housing was just a coincidence. thanks for the help though guys!
