Black Diesel Anyone?
I just got my first diesel pick up. worked the last five sundays doing a motor swap in a 98 blazer for a buddy, and got this truck in trade.
it's a 81 chev 3+3 3/4 ton.
truck came from ill. by some miracle it is not very rusty, but in need of restoration. I am a heavy equipment mechanic, and I hate gas motors, so this old truck will be my new favorite hobby.
I found this site when I was searching for people who have experience burning used motor oil for fuel/ I want to convert my chevy to run on wmo.
lots of info out there, I just have to figure out where to start.
anyway I just wanted to say 'hey' to all here at this group.
this site looks pretty good and I thought that maybe I should join.
I have been a mechanic for most of my life, doing tune ups on everyones cars and trucks in the neighborhood since I was just a kid. if they would let me under the hood, i could usually figure out how to get them fixed and running.
I am condemmed to fix things for my whole life, as it is the only thing that i was ever good at. so as you can well imagine everything i own is pretty much a worn out busted old piece of crap that needs me.
anyway last week when I got my chev truck, my spouse helped me push start it with our bobcat. as the starter wouldn't work, we pushed it a mile out and a mile back. smoked like hell and shook like to rattle the fillings out my teeth. but would not start. next day after work [of course] I got her going. the whole truck vibrates at idle COOL! I have a diesel!
motor runs good no smoke or leaks. thanks for the cool site -toeman
