I have a 2001 jetta w/a 1.9 tdi motor. I bought an AFE air intake system. In the kit was a small filter and elbow connector. It says to connect the elbow to a hose from the smog pump. The instructions were not very clear and I am not even sure the motor has a smog pump. Even if it does I wouldn't know what to look for or where the elbow connects. Is this something that I need to concern myself with? If it needs to be installed I would prefer to do it the right way.

Nope, if your car is like the 2 I have this doesn't exist. That little filter is for the 1.8L T gas motor. Of course I could be wrong but I am running 2 years + on both now and it is not a problem.

 

did u buy just the filter or the entire intake system??

 

The entire stage 1 system. They didn't make stage 2 at the time.
