50 state?!?!?!?! I assure you California will find some way to bar this much efficiency from being operated within the "People's" Republic of Commiefornia...

Wow, i didn't know it was going to be 50 state legal! Larger motor, more hp, mpg went down a little compared to the older ones. Give and take i guess. They should have a smaller tdi in the states too. one that gets like 80mpg!

it's true!!!!!!! a friend of mine and his wife (previous roommate's brother) just bought a brand new Jetta TDi from a dealership here in Commiefornia! they've been considering getting a Prius for a while, their parents got one so they've had a fair amount of test drive experience and figured they'd probably get one, too since it gets good mileage.

well, my previous roommate (longtime gearhead buddy), I like to think because of my dieseling influence, kept bugging his brother just to go test drive a Jetta TDi and see what they thought about it. they agreed that the power difference was roughly comparable to a sport bike vs pedal bike and since they bought it, have been getting 48 mpg with it, not even broken in or bombed yet.

I get that question a lot with driving my truck, people are shocked that I have a diesel truck instead of a gas truck...even with diesel far above premium, it STILL pencils out to be cheaper on fuel than a gas truck, let alone having more power and a stronger drivetrain.

Not sure why auto manufacturer's haven't pushed any(or very little) advertising for their diesels (cars/small suv's), I guess it probably has something to do with getting tax credits or carbon credits for 'flex fuel' and hybrid vehicles.

not only that but people look at diesel prices compared to gas prices and say no way i could not afford that, why do you think the oil companies started jacking diesel prices up so people wouldnt convert to diesel
