Default p-pump timing

ok so i have a 1978f250 i did a cummins swap into..

you can see it here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...storation.html

I'm getting ready to mount my p-pump on the motor.. here is my situation

i have a 1996 motor that was with and auto tranny.

the timing housing was scrapped because it broke.
the pump gear was removed with out the pump being pinned.
the motor was rebuilt.

i need to make sure i get this pump timed correctly.. not knowing what the original time of the pump was shouldn't matter because the gear has been removed.. I'm aiming for 18 degrees advance.. i was told that was the best for cold start and drivability.. impute is welcome.

i need to make sure i don't time this pump 180 off.. I'm really not sure how to install this thing correctly.. any good forums i can read or videos or even a good response would be greatly appreciated.

the head is on the motor. cam installed. ill mount the pump tonight and hope to time it soon. again if you chec out he forum in the post here you can see what ive been up too.

well to clearify things.

i know i will be using the pin to put the motor at tdc.. the pin on the put to hold it tdc.. i need to find a chart orsomething that will show what factory timing was on my pump.. i don't have the plate.. i guess the timing is all over the place from factory but there must be a reason for that like auto vs manual or year it was sold

I think you posted this on another forum also didn't you? Cummins Quick Serve will give you some details but IIRC you could have either a 180hp or a 215hp p-pump version if it's original 1996 and an auto trans. I know my 1995 160hp pump has 12.5 degrees from factory. Are you SURE the plate isn't there covered by paint. Should be there on the side between the back side of the p-pump nearest the block. Betting it's been painted over by someone. Check this link and I hope you have the engine CPL number from the CPL plate on the front timing cover. See attached photo for example.

Now, if you're saying you don't have a similar plate, ok,. but you should still be able to find the p-pump number on the back side of the-pump!
