Default Diesel Theft on the Rise and Truckers Going Out of Business

There’s really not much to talk about lately besides truckers losing their trucks and people thinking of new and creative ways to steal fuel.
The latest in stealing fuel targets you and I now. It’s nearly impossible to find a fuel station that will let you pump anything without prepaying now so that eliminates the pump and run method. The other way is to siphon fuel out of the tank by opening the gas cap and sucking it out, but that’s been hindered by flaps and ***** in the tank. Now that those aren’t really options anymore, thieves are just going up to your car and putting a hole in the tank and letting it drain, or cutting the fuel line to let it drain. If they puncture your fuel tank you’re probably looking at at least $400 or so for a repair bill. This is happening mainly to trucks and SUV’s since they have bigger tanks, but obviously it could happen to anyone so be aware.
To end this short update with a little good news diesel prices went down for the second straight week with this week dropping about 1.5 cents. Summer generally means a drop in diesel prices because we’re not really using heating oil any longer. Unfortunately that’s no longer a sure thing since there is no logic in oil barrel futures, just irrational speculation.

They had a guy driving around with a gooseneck enclosed trailer with a hole in the floor stealing it staright from the tanks at stations... He would pull up, prk over the opeaning for the tank and go inside, Then two of his buddies would open a hatch in the floor of the trailer, take off teh cover and pump out the fuel.

its been holding steady at about 4.69 here.

What blows my mind is that crude is down like to 131 or something, but prices at the pump are the same or higher than they were when prices were 139 a barrel. Someone is getting F@@KED, and i think its daddy!!!

I remember the "other" fuel shortage we had, way back when 30 years ago. Long lines at the pump, and only buy fuel on certain days.

Fuel pumps had longer hoses that layed on the ground. After you finished pumping, we used to shut off the pump then lift the hose to drain the fuel out of the hose into your tank. (Now a days, the hose is mounted higher so there is minimal fuel left in the hose.)

I almost felt like I was stealing.... One station owner would yell at me every time I would do that.

Yeah, I remember that too ~Course I was a little kid then. But I remember only being able to get gas on even days, long waits in line for it, definately doing the shut it off/ lift the hose thing, and later having the gas siphoned by some sucker-faced kid while it was parked in the driveway!
