Default 96 6.5

Hi all, first time poster. I pulled the plug on my PMD and there is no resister in the plug. Should there be one? If not then what is it's purpose? I've seen #5 and #9.
Just started having a problem with it not cranking. Like dead battery. Just clicks. Cables are good and batteries are good. Thinking a bad starter. Mostly does it when hot. PMD has already been relocated.

Default PMD

Just my two cents worth. I have replaced a bunch of The PMD's on my truck . Somewhere the resistor was not installed years ago. I just replaced it once again and the supplier asked me if I needed the resistor . I had a couple extra 20's so I said sure as he informed me it would benefit . Absolutely no difference in power or economy. Money better spent a DQ with the wife.
