Default Edge causing hot hard start?

hey guys so I'm certain I have a worn diaphragm in my vp44. But I tried turning my edge down(usually run it on 3) and it started while still hot. Has anyone noticed this problem? Are you supposed to turn it down? I have the safety turned off so I don't have to wait to get up to 150 degrees. Anyone experience this? Thanks!

The edge isn't the problem its the fuel pressure while cranking hot. Look at wiring in a lift pump relay delay. VP's don't like "normal" pressure while starting. If you wire in one of those you will be good to go.
