Default Where to put AC Compressor?

Hey Guys!

I have a 67 International crew cab with a 1990 5.9L Cummins. The Dodge RAM D250 the Cummins originally came with had AC but I never thought to transition that to the International until now. Looking at after market AC kits that might work and realized that my frame doesn't allow for placing the compressor where it would have been bracketed to the Cummins with the Dodge.

Has anyone ever mounted a compressor towards the top portion of their 1st gen Cummins successfully? Searched the net for images but haven't found any fabrications that look like they might work. Here's some pictures of the kinds of spaces I'm working with.

Thanks,

Michael

If you have enough height to the hood then on the head above the injection pump.
May need to add an idler to route the belt.
Remove the oil fill and plug and use a rocker cover fill point.
Where my second alternator is

Thanks for the feedback. Seems like on top above the injector pump is the best way to get this done. I'll look into capping the oil fill and getting one of those rocker covers with an oil cap.

I ended up finding some mounting brackets that might work for others facing the same problem.

Should be able to find the rocker cover and cap on Fleabay, front fill cap is Cummins/Case. May have the cover/cap numbers here somewhere

Found a small custom fab shop in Montana that can provide me with an entire kit that will work with the Cummins. Really nice folks who create brackets for any variety of compressors that work with existing or after market AC units.

Auto World in Great Falls, MT / 406-452-8105

The one I'll be getting from them gets the compressor on top the Cummins and allows for a separate pulley system that won't change any of the existing distances of belts or the fan in front of the radiator. I'll post a picture when it's all done.

Feel free. It's actually from the manufacturer in Montana so it's an actual picture of one of their bracket/pulley setups. Not sure if these work with a 4BT but I wouldn't see why not. Most of the brackets I've research tend to work with both as long as the engine is in the same class and application.

Default Final Look

Here's the final application of the Auto World bracket I installed. Really an excellent product. Their kit covers everything, is extremely well made a much more affordable than other options out there.
