Default Newby wants 700hp diesel and auto

Hello to everyone

My first post here.

I have a 1960 International AA150 with a long wheel base with a huge engine bay weighing about 2500kg. I'm wanting a 700hp diesel engine with auto and I'd like some opinions which engine and automatic transmission to use.

Obviously I would like to do this cheaply and reliably as possible noting my vehicle currently doesn't have modern electricals. I looked at Cummins 12V with maybe a 48RE or Allison 1000 transmission but I'm open for suggestions and which engine and transmission builder in the US to use. I could consider using a modern set up with a loom supplied.

I would keep it old school for simplicity, 12v engine, and a 47rh. In my opinion firepunk has a rock solid transmission. I have always built my own engines so I can't tell you who a good engine builder for a 12v would be.

I can tell you right now this swap isn't going to be cheap. unless you already have the parts laying around. For a 47xx transmission to hold 700 hp you can bank on paying about $8-10k. Plus the building up of the engine. Base price is probably around the $1500-2500 range. Twins will run in the $3-4k range. Injectors will be the cheapest part.

I would recommend the cummins 47rh swap. But with mild upgrades and plan on keeping it in the 300-400 hp range. That way you wont over heat or work the truck if you ever plan on using it as it was designed for.

But know this at 700 hp you aren't going to have fun using the truck. Its going to break stuff and bee a hot smokey mess. Good luck with your swap.

I would look at the 47RH instead of the RE. Can be built to same power level because it uses basically the same parts. Saves you from a transmission controller and extra electronics.
