Default 62/68/.96 Turbo

Truck is in sig- upgrading turbo to 62/68/.96 Turbonetics ceramic BB turbo with T4 manifold. I am getting this from a friend - yes I know they are expensive. Anyway- With EFI tuning how much laggier will this setup be than stock setup? It is my dd and I don't tow hardly. I will be doing DPS manifold and 5" turbo back exhaust at the same time. Over all goal 600-650hp and thought is down the road if I go twins that can be top turbo- anyone have similar setup or know who has run a similar setup?

it wont spool as fast as the stock turbo but with EFI it will help the spool up. i have ran a 63/65 and i did not like the slower spool up compared to the HE351. so i sold it in less then of month of having and now run the HE351 over an s475 and it spools faster. on the dyno i got 624 HP and 1090 TQ with that compound set up, EFI and BMS 50 HP injectors. you can run the 62/68 as a secondary, but for faster spool up i would go with the stocker s475 set up.

Where did you source the piping for the twins kit? I would like to go that route but it is so expensive from the kits I have seen

I used the crazy Carl piping kit. It's compounds, not twins

With a good efi live tune, a turbonetics 62 should light just as fast. If not faster than a stock he351, they are a fast lighting turbo

Not true. If you got EFI with a stock turbo, it will still spool faster. The stock turbo is the fastest spooling turbo. Check out the turbo shoot out that calibrated did. But they may not be called calibrated anymore, i can't remember.

Thanks for crazy carl compound info- I do know the thread you are mentioning with the testing of each turbo. I'm not looking for the fastest lighting turbo per say but wasn't sure if anyone thought it would be an issue with the .96 exit. I got a hold of my tuner and he said it will hardly be a noticeable difference

ill be be sure to report back how she drived with the uografes. For now compounds will still be something to look forward to down the road!

Final turbo was a 61/68/.84 Turbonetics. It spools like stock but sounds 100x better with second gen swap. Once retuned I think it'll spool better than stock. EGTs are about the same so now i understand why compounds are a must for towing!

FYI Turbonetics is out and has been replaced with borg warner 62/68/.91 sxe. Turbonetics was surging bad about 20psi 1800rpm wot. Sxe has basically 0 turbo noise which I like, egts are about 100-150* cooler. Turbonetics made my truck sound like a 6.0, sxe sounds way throatier more like a cummins. I have a FTE resonator on the way to quiet down some cab noise as it is a bit louder!
