Fixing to replace exhaust from turbo back I have a 1995 7.3 with 17000 miles and use it mostly to pull 30ft fifth wheel. Don't want loud or black smoke on camper but performance. Should I go back stock size or larger and muffler or not. Advice appreciated:

 

I have a 94 Chevy K2500 with the 6.5. I installed a Diamond Eye 4", with straight through muffler, and exits behind the rear wheel. Although it may not be absolutely needed, I used high heat grill flat black paint before installation. I have no regrets for doing so, except for the muffler. Too much noise, especially when trying to pick up speed when going uphill. Although i have no experience with them, everything I'm finding says that the Aeroturbine muffler would be worth the cost for a quieter system without adding any back pressure.

A better flowing exhaust for a diesel is always a plus, especially if you tow a trailer. If you don't add any fuel to what you currently have you shouldn't see any difference in black soot on your trailer from what it is now. Adding fuel to a system, that currently doesn't soot things up with black smoke, is most likely to get you into the black smoke/soot area.

I noticed good gains on my '95 PSD going to an aftermarket downpipe that is actually round, and a straight pipe out the side. No cat, no muffler. I didn't mind the noise, but I know that's not for everybody.

The DE kit I got for my Dodge came with a nice straight-through muffler. I never ran it though... gave it to a buddy.

 

Thanks for input I went with round down pipe also and gutted cat but left muffler. Pick up today and will post how it does might have to do a better non restrictive muffler but trying to limit noise. Thanks for help from you guys might try cold air intake next,any input on that would also be appreciated
