Serpentine belt size. By passing A/C has anyone done this.
I want to bypass my dead A/C with a new serpentine belt. Has anyone done this? I need to know the belt size you used.
64-3/8" or 1634mm belt is just too short by the slightest.
Thank you.

Thank you.
My 6BT came with an idler pulley in place of the A/C comp. Used the same belt and could always put a comp back on if needed.
Other than that check Gates or another belt make for the next nearest size.
The tensioner should give you enough play to fit the next larger belt.
You can also index the tensioner and drill a new locating hole in the base plate to get correct tension.
Cheers Steve

Thanks Steve.
It was silly for Chrysler Corp., to show a diagram with & without A/C when a non-a/c belt for a factory a/c engine won't even work was silly.
As for the next size up, are you certain that will be enough to fully go over the alt., pulley & will tension properly?
Thanks again

May pay to run a string around the pulleys then measure the length, will be close to the size required. Just go a little longer.
If you have a longer old belt you don't mind cutting, lay it round the pulleys and mark the overlap then measure.
Gates list 1633, 1651 , 1657, 1665, 1674 and 1683 mm lengths (K080635, K080644, K080645, K080649, K080653 K080655)

I will have to do that.

Steve,
The 65" (1651mm) belts are non-A/C & non- intercooler Dodges.
This belt is actually, 17mm longer than the Non-A/C with intercooler.
In my openion, I am afraid it's going to be too long. What I think is needed is a belt
64 5/8" in length or 1641.47mm.
So, who knows what may actually work effectively.

Not having a garage to work in I didn't get a chance measure since it is racing. But will measure as soon as the rain stops.
Thanks.

Thanks.

Hear the bit about crappy weather.
Had a bit of a play with my belt and tensioner ( not fully set up yet)
Tensioner appears to take up about 20mm of belt length with my set up.
Cheers Steve
