Took my head off because I wanted to do studs and a bigger turbo figured I may as well change the gasket too . Well I didn't think the fire rings of the gasket would leave impression in the head is this really bad or can I get away with cleaning it up and putting it back together or should I have the head decked? If so how much I think there's specs to what the headgasket can handle if you take so many thousandths off the head. I will include a picture of my head any info helps thanks.

 

Seeing as you are going with studs that would suggest you are going to lay the boost to it.
I would have it faced.
The amount to clean that up should not be a problem.
Guess you should be doing the valves as well while apart as that head looks to have been on there for quite some time.

Thanks for your reply Steve, I am doing 60# valve springs. New seals. Trucks got about 210k, facing is thag the same thing as having it decked? Or is it 2 different forms of machining? And yeah deff gonna throw a lot of boost at the truck.

 

Usually decking is referring to the block, facing is the head.
Either way it is just to get a good sealing surface.
Had a quick look at my manual, could not find much on the amount you can skim off, only that the valve heads should be between .039 and .060 below the face of the head.
Have a good look for cracks around the injector holes. Can be reused depending on where they run. All in the manual.

If its a non intercooled head don't be surprised if you find cracks by the inj...

 

Don't remind me , I'm having the head magnafluxed for that reason and repaired if necessary.

 

might as well o-ring it while your there

 

Wound up just resurfacing it, gonna do around 35lbs max so it's not totally necessary
