Default Ticket for Blowin Smoke, BS?

has anybody been pulled over for blowin smoke, i have a friend that has a 97 pretty well bombed and saturday morning was pulled over by the Ohio State Patrol for blowin smoke, $110 dollar ticket and the officer told him if he sees him doing it again he will take his license and impound his truck, if anyone is familiar with the laws i would be interested to know. i think impounding his truck is BS.

yea i have heard of people getting tickted before for smoke. the reason behind it is the smoke is creating a hazard for other drivers they cannot see and the cops clame it will cause an accident...which if you are rolling it out heavy enuff i can see it happening. cause people will try to drive around it...

Yeah it happens. IIRC the federalis have it set that any smoke out of a semi has to clear after like 5 seconds or they will ticket. I think that's the way it works. It's only a matter of time before we're effected by it too. Time to clean up the rigs and only roll the coal off pavement.

You bet. The HWY patrol or state troopers or any other police force for that matter has the right to remove "unsafe" vehicles from the road. You don't get to deem it safe at the time either. You get out, hand the keys over and take a cab.

If the EPA caught you it is likely you wouldn't see the truck back until it was brought down to stock. Fight it all you want but this is a risk we all play to get performance and economy - this of course is something those people will never understand.

I got pulled over for it once, NY ST, He came to the window and said "Sir do you know why I pulled you over?"

I said, "Umm, No"

"Well, sir your truck seems to be producing excessive smoke."

So I told him, "You know its been doing that for a couple days now, I think I have a bad injector or something, but I'm getting it looked at this weekend."

"Alright sir, make sure it gets cleaned up, and I hope its not too expensive for ya, have a nice day."

I was amazed, he didn't even write me a warning or anything! Nice guy if you ask me. I did tighten up the Starwheel a little, just to keep it from smoking all the time.

"do you know why i pulled you over today?"
"No sir"
"Your truck blew quite a bit of smoke back there and i just thought that you should know"
"thank you sir. I know it smokes i will turn down my chips when i get home"
"Ok you have a great day"
He must have owned a diesel or something.
