Default California emissions question.

Hello, I just recently bought a 2002 pete 330 with a 3126cat. The truck is currently registered in california. Now when I got this truck I asked the previous owner if he had to smog the truck or do any emissions testing on it. He told me that the truck has been registered in california since 2010 and has never had to pass any type of emissions. I would greatly appreciate any input on if this truck has to pass smog/emissions.

Did you find anything out about this? I have read that all vehicles have to be inspected in CA and they can even pull you over and do spot checks>
