Default Late 2k Dodge Cummins w/150k+ miles?

I am a non owner of a Dodge Cummins but am wanting to buy one in my home state of Missouri and drive it back to California where I am stationed. Should I be worried about 170k+ miles on it? Also should I worry about the modifications the owner has done to the truck? Or what modifications should I look for on the truck? I am wanting a 4x4, ex cab or 4 door, short bed, with a chip.

I much prefer my 3rd gen over my old '99. If possible consider a 2003-2007 Ram. Much better steering, brakes, roomier cab and far more dependable than a 24v. Walk away from it if the owner has no records. Pay a little more up front and get a much better engineered truck.

at 175K on a Cummins diesel. Unless half of Missouri wildlife jumps out at you when you open the hood consider it long term. I prefer 2nd. generation especially when you buy parts and resale value. Just my opinion and I have one with only 140K and it's a 98.
