Question Rear Brake Concern

Fellow Duramax owners,
I have a 2005 GMC 2500 HD Duramax with 150,000 mi on the clock. Recently had an oil change and safety inspection. My rear wheel brakes were visually checked. The inner brake pads are worn down to about 50% and the outer pads are hardly worn down at all, maybe 10-20%. My mechanic has told me that sometime down the road before I start towing again (summer), I would be wise to re & re rotors, pads and calipers. Don't know why he suggested caliper replacement but he did. Anyone shed light on this?
