Default 48RE Trans Service

I am in the midst of servicing AT on my '04 3500. This is the 2nd service I've performed but the 1st service at 70,000 mi I did not adjust the bands(just fluid & filter) as this was right after I purchased & did not know about band adjustment. I now have 104k & am trying to perform myself. I began adjusting the rear band & noticed my POS in/lb torque wrench is trashed & know I have over tightened it. My question is can I loosen back adjustment screw & start over with a good wrench of course? If so how will I know if correct or not when done? Or will it be obvious when driven? Any help/advice is GREATLY appreciated!!!

You don't really need a TQ wrench unless you are totally **** about it. The turns backed off are what matter more so than the set TQ. Good an snug, not tight, with a 3/8 drive ratchet is adequate to start with.

Back the rear band off 3 turns, front band 1 3/4 turns, those are what is important.

Thanks a bunch. Did as you said since couldn't find "lb TQ wrench that would set under 120 anyway. Replaced pan & filled up. Drove good. Def made a difference(hoping for the best). Shifts at what appears to be correct rpm/speed just does it A LOT faster...Going home to WVa for Christmas so if not I'll know then for sure

Yeah, once you figure out what 120 inch lbs is it doesn't take long to be so close you will never tell the difference. Beats trying to get it up in there and aligned and turned far enough to hear click when it is right.

Glad it is working better now.
