Default 7.3 fuel bowl wrestling connection...what's it for???

Hey guys, on a 2000 powerstroke 7.3t...can anyone tell me what the electrical connection directly next to the fuel drain valve on the fuel canister....I bought the truck used and the plug is off the fitting, I plugged it back on and drove it for a minute, when I stopped and opened the hood , the plug was smoking and when I went to disconnect it from the fuel bowl it was scorching hot, obviously a short somewhere but does anyone know whet that electronic connection does????

The white plug is disconnected, the truck runs fine, just need to know if its needed to be repaired

He's correct it is the fuel bowl heater and if it's smoking and scorched then the heater in side the bowl is shorted but not enough to blow the fuse. Pretty easy to change out. Mine did the same thing only it left me stranded. Good luck.
