2006 3500 won't run properly, then dies
I have a 2006 one ton and I filled it up, let it idle for an hour come out and it was having a REALLY rough idle. Like it was gonna die. Tried reviing IT up a bit it would do nothing when I hit the throttle. It was having a hard knock in the motor. And I shut it off. Now the only way it will start is if I boost it and it still idles rough with a hard knock and it will kill itself after 2 minutes of idling. What could the main issue be here ?
FCA BAd or Unplugged? Valve train issue pull the cover inspect! hard knock bad injector? Dropped valve? Man it could be a lot of things your gonna have to do some trouble shooting or take it to someone that can!
Why would you let it idle for an hour?? Really cold climate? Maybe your fuel gelled up. Also sounds a bit like water in the fuel. Drain the fuel from the filter housing, into a clear container and see if there is any traces of water in it.
Depending on how low your tank was when you filled up, it is possible that you got some grime from the bottom of the tank. Drain the fuel, change your fuel filter and prime it using new diesel with diesel clean additive. It is also possible that you got some bad diesel with water in it or other contaminants. Has it recently rained in your area? Where I live in Texas, that is especially common. My advice is the same: drain the tank and put new diesel in, and change the fuel filter
