I'm new to Diesel Bombers, lots of information but I can't seem to find any thing on California smog laws on swapping engines. Is it because California smog laws are so convoluted?

I'm not trying to kill the El Segundo Blue Butterfly or the California Condor, I just want to instal a 1995 12 valve Cummins into my 1993 Ford F350 which currently has a 460. Has anyone in So Cal successfully performed this swap or anything similar and been able to register their vehicle?

I currently have the truck and engine, I'm collecting all the parts necessary to perform the swap, I just want to make sure I can still register the vehicle in California. Has anyone contacted a State Referee? Are they helpful?

Thank you in advance for any information.

Nick

With what i have seen you should have no problem with that combo. As long as the engine is newer then the vehicle and it is in the same weight class 3/4 or 1ton you should be fine, they won't allow you to put one in a 1/2 ton unless it came with a diesel already and it is older then 97. Then you just don't mention it. You should call the local ref and ask questions. He will be the one that has to sign off on it
Good luck on the swap

I appreciate the feed back, I'll give them a call tomorrow. Is it a good idea to show them a photo of the engine data plate or best to not bring it up? Whats nice is the data plate say's build by Cummins for Ford. I was also planning on checking out the Orange County Diesel Club when they have their next meeting.

Thanks again
Nick
