Default 83 chevy 6.2 Dies after 3 minutes

Hello DB community. I have a very frustrating problem. My 83 6.2 diesel starts and then dies after 3 minutes of running. I checked the small filter in the valley after it dies and it's completely empty. I verified that my lift pump is working and I changed all hoses going to the tank because I thought it might be sucking air or something. Restarted truck after I filled the fuel filters and I got the same result. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Have you looked at the sending unit and the inside of the fuel tank it's 31 years old it is possible it may have a rust hole in the pick up tube.

Do you think I can verify the hole in the pick up tube by filling the tank to the top and seeing if it stays on?

Sounds like air getting in. Could you try running a hose from a can of fuel to the lift pump to rule out the tank sending unit? Best I can think of at the moment, good luck!

I tried running an electric fuel pump with an external fuel source and I get the same results.

Might be a restriction in the fuel return?

Do you know how I can check for a restriction in the fuel return?

Take the cap off the fuel tank and blow low pressure air back into the tank dfrom the IP end of the return line.
