Default Need help! New owner of a 1989 f250 xlt lariat single cab 7.3l idi 216 k

Hi everyone,
I just bought a new truck and fell in love with it. It's a 7.3l idi 1989 f250 xlt lariat single cab 4x4. I'm pretty new to the diesel world and need some advices from passionate people like you.

Things I need to fix:
- glow plugs ( problems with cold start)

I would also like to know what i should be doing to keep this truck running for a long long time. I am motivated to learn from you guys and gals and doing my own mechanical work within my abilities.

So what should I look for, anything I should replace before the winter (prevention stuff) ? What kind of oil is best to use with this kind of truck?

Lots of things I need to learn, if anyone as a little bit of time to teach me a thing or two that you learn threw the years I would be really grateful And i would like to pass on this knowledge to others.

Thanks everyone!

for your Glow Plugs ( GP's ) .. You will need to start by doing a Contunuity test on each GP unplugged from the wiring ..

Next Check for voltage @ each plug wire .. not while plugged into the GP .. ( positive on the power wire @ gp .. the Ground on the block ..

If you get no power the GP controller may be to blame .. or check grounds and such ..

I ran Royal purple 15/40 full synthetic and gained 1.5 mpg alone .. I also Installed a 14X6" K&N Air Filter with a small riser ( carb spacer ) .. other wise it might arc out on the GP controller ..
