Yeah, its the same principal as soy oil, rapeseed oil, sunflower oil, or anything else. It is hard to extract it mechanically however, most places use a solvent extraction method.

I know the local bio-diesel plant here in San Antonio is having trouble keeping up with demand, but last year they were using Cottonseed oil.

It must only be seasonally available though.

Well, until we figure out a way to have a year round harvest (algae) they'll be running short a lot I bet. The Ethanol plant here was paying $17 a bushel to make sure they had enough corn to store until this coming harvest season, they still don't know if its enough.

I sure hope you wanted to say $7.00 and not $17.00 a bushel as if they are paying that much they got rocks in there heads.

Nope...$17 a bushel. No joke. I think now they are paying between $12-13 a bushel. Thats if you deliver it to them, which is what we do, if they pick it up I don't know what they pay.

The only thing holding back algae research is investors... If the government would have studied ethanol more (and figured out it was a waste of time) and used that subsidy money for algae research we would be in a much different economy than we are now. The biggest hurdle is finding a vessel to go it in efficiently. You can use CO2 emissions from coal burning power plants to feed the stuff, and in turn it pumps out pure oxygen while growing at a rapid pace. Its killing 3 birds with a bunch of sludge!

1. Your reducing greenhouse gas emissions by using CO2 from a fossil fuel burning plant.
2. Your reducing dependence on fossil fuel crude oil.
3. Your reducing all kinds of tailpipe emissions from cars and trucks! (The oil and starches can be removed seperately to make both ethanol and biodiesel.

hopefully the powers at be will relize that algae is the answer. if corn is 12-17 bucks a bushell then the deer are going to be hungry this year!
